Rannsakningshäktet, eller kurran som huset vanligen kallades, tillkom samtidigt som tingshuset. Häktet brann den 6 april 1849, men återuppbyggdes senare i sitt nuvarande utförande.
Fångarna som skulle till tinget fördes till häktet vid tingshuset på fångkärror från fängelserna i Kalmar och Västervik.
På dörren in till vaktrummet står ”Om Gud finge råda människorna efter sitt ord så behövdes ej ett sådant här hus” och på väggarna i häktet har tidigare fången Axel Lustig nedtecknat en uppmaning till andra fångar: ”Gud är stor, sök honom. Axel Lustig”.
The remand prison, or kurra as the house was usually called, was added at the same time as the courthouse. The prison burned down on April 6, 1849, but was later rebuilt in its current form.
The prisoners who were going to the court were taken to the detention center at the courthouse on prisoner carts from the prisons in Kalmar and Västervik.
On the door to the guard room is written ”If God could guide people according to his word, there would be no need for a house like this” and on the walls of the detention center former prisoner Axel Lustig has written down a call to other prisoners: ”God is great, seek him. Axel Lustig”.
Ishults tingshus är ett av Smålands bäst bevarade tingshus som idag är byggnadsminne och museum. År 1730 hölls det första tinget och här skipades rättvisa i över 200 år.
